SSSSSMOKING! Top 10 Smoking Scenes

Smoking. Filthy habit. I'm not that keen on it myself - I really only smoke after sex. So that makes me a 20-a-day man! Wacca wacca! Anyway, there's been a bit of a kerfuffle recently about a report which calls for films with smoking in them to get an 18 certificate as the glamourisation of smoking will only induce poor, defenceless, weak-minded children to take up the habit. Pah! Do they think we are so susceptible that we could be brain-washed by the movies into thinking smoking is a good thing? Anyway, take a look at these ten fantastically sexy, sophisticated and utterly cool examples of smoking in the movies, whilst I pop out for another pack.

Goodfellas (1990)
Robert de Niro has a puff, whilst his eyes seek out the people who won't need to worry about passive smoking for very much longer...

For a Few Dollars More (1965)
Lee van Cleef strikes a match on Klaus Kinski's stubble to light his pipe. Watch it here.

Freaks (1932)
Prince Randian lights a fag. What's so big about that? He's not got any arms or legs, that's what.

Pinocchio (1941)
Playing pool and smoking cigars. If only life were like that all the time.

Basic Instinct (1992)
Sharon Stone smoking, in all senses of the word.

A Bout de Souffle (1950)
Jean Paul Belmondo only stops smoking in this film to kiss Jean Seberg. And even then, he's still thinking about the next drag.

The Last Boy Scout (1991)
This is why you shouldn't tease someone who's gasping for a fag.

To Have & Have Not (1944)
There's a good reason Lauren Bacall had a husky voice....

Now Voyager (1942)
Actually, Bette Davis smoked like a train in every film she ever made.

Dr No (1962)
The dangling-cigarette-on-the-lip technique. Nobody does it better

Perhaps these report guys are right, though. We could all learn from the legendary Lt Frank Drebin. Next time you're offered a fag, this is the correct response.
